Let’s face it: Spring gets a lot of gardening glory. Experts with green thumbs and novices alike are always awfully excited about the endless planting possibilities that come after a long, cold winter. But we’re to give autumn its due. With proper planning, the later months of the year present just as many opportunities to dig in and enjoy the beauty of your particular plot. Whether you want to shore up borders with golden annuals; put together pots teeming with fillers, spillers, and thrillers; beautify beds with trees and shrubs; cook up some ideas for a kitchen garden; or, yes, plant bulbs and seeds that will shine come spring, this is the time to make it happen. And as the year comes to a close, we should also make it a priority to prune out the old and tired, and make way for the daring and new—in our gardens and our lives! Happy planting!
