When Mary Lennox is sent from India to live with her uncle, she is a disagreeable child because no one has ever really cared for her. At first, she finds life in a big house in Yorkshire strange and lonely, but, gradually, the people she meets and, above all, the secret garden that she discovers transform not only her life but the lives of all who surround her.
